- Window glazing. There are numerous glazing products now available such as UV resistant and double glazing units that keep you home cooler in summer and warmer in winter

- Careful positioning of windows to allow cross ventilation. This can significantly assist with cooling
- Elimination of drafts. For example filling in gaps between window frames or by using draft stoppers on exhaust fans and doors
- Use of solar power and solar hot water services
- Use of wind power
- Energy efficient appliances and lighting
- Proper orientation
- Use of eaves to let sun in the winter and to keep sun out in summer
- Adjustable shadings
- Use of high thermal mass materials
- Deciduous trees to allow let sun in the winter and to keep sun out in summer

- The use of sound insulation and glazing can also reduce noise pollution
- Use of certain types of paints and floor varnishes emit lower amounts of fumes and are more environmentally friendly to produce

- Construction of low maintenance long lasting homes
- Ensure minimum impact of local environment during to construction. E.g. runoff, storm water damage, water pollution, dust pollution & noise pollution. E.g. covering stockpiles to protect from runoff into drains
